DIY Projects for The Iphone
The iPhone has revolutionized our modern mobile phones and tablets that are on the market today. For the DIY enthusiast, the iPhone provides a lot of different ideas for useful projects. Some iPhone projects are simple and can be accomplished in a very short time using only a few electrical components. There are also plenty of more complicated projects for the experienced DIY-er. Some projects are just plain useful and help make the iPhone more convenient. Others require some programming skills and advanced electronics skills. Either way, there are plenty of DIY projects to accessorize the iPhone.
iPhone Chargers
There are a few options for types of iPhone chargers. A very simple project for beginners is a solar charger that is easy to finish in a short amount of time. It also does not require extensive knowledge of electronics or programming and only requires a few common components such as a solar cell and a blocking diode. It will require some basic soldering skills. Beginners may also enjoy building a USB charger for an iPhone. This is a great project as it is small and portable.
Building an iPhone Amp
It will take several steps to build a small, portable amp; but for those who enjoy taking their music with them and being able to hear it loudly it is the perfect DIY project. You will need to have some basic electrical knowledge like electrical wiring and how to hook up a speaker. For the circuit you’ll also need a couple of different types of resistors and a capacitor. It is a good idea to have some basic building skills in order to build an appropriate case to house the amp too. This can be done using an old iPhone box, or other small containers such as an Altoids tin, or something slightly bigger. It is important to know at least a little bit about how to build a circuit and how to hook up a simple power supply like a 9V battery. You may also want to make the device rechargeable in which case you will need to install a switch to turn the charging mode on or off.
Building an iPhone Video Projector
For those who desire to share their iPhone videos with larger crowds an iPhone video projector is the perfect solution. It’s not a real complicated DIY project, but it is important to have at least some basic electrical knowledge. A regular projector can be a very expensive device and it’s a lot cheaper (and more fun) to build it yourself. You need some basic components like a light source, an LCD screen, Fresnel Lens, and a mogul base HID socket. You can use a flat panel from a computer for the LCD flat panel monitor. The size of your LCD screen will determine the specifications of many of the other components used for this project. This project is rather complicated and it has to be constructed properly using polycarbonate to protect the housing from the heat that the light source produces.
Building an iPhone RFID Reader
For those who are really into technology, building an RFID reader for your iPhone can be a great DIY project. Basically, it acts like a bar code reader and data is captured through radio waves. However, the RFID reader can capture data from quite a distance. You will need to have basic knowledge of how to compile custom software for iPhones, some general experience with electronics and skills such as soldering. In order to build the RFID reader you’ll need basic knowledge of wiring ID-12s and attaching series of IC sockets to a breakout board. It is also important to know enough about wiring in switches and some basic circuitry concepts. You’ll need to build the unit before hooking it up to an iPhone that has been jail broken. The iPhone only has to receive information and not send it whereas the RFID reader must read information and then send it to the iPhone. It is advisable to use an older, discarded iPhone for this project unless you don’t mind jail breaking the one you are using. The iPhone also has to be programmed in order to operate the program and give it the ability to read the RFID tags.
